Crane Rigging Foreman Description
Some Core Responsibilities for a Crane & Rigging General Foreman
- Coordinate planned lifts with rigging teams, crane operators, and crews
- Strong knowledge of crane operation, rigging, and planned lifts
- Attend and lead mandatory safety meetings and be a safety role model
- Enforce client specific safety policies and procedures on site
- Anticipate and recognize potential safety and environmental concerns
- Assign job duties of the crew and ensure that each employee is properly trained
- Provide records of work completed when requested
- Oversee maintenance of all rigging equipment and cranes
- Must be able to assess weights of loads and equipment needed to lift safely

Some Physical Demands for Crane & Rigging Foreman
- Work in outdoor weather and environmental conditions including extreme heat and humidity, extreme cold, and high elevations
- Lift and carry awkward objects up to 60 lbs.
- Stand for extended periods of time up to 12 hours per day
- Move whole body with considerable use of arms, legs, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, crawling, twisting, reaching, and bending on a regular basis
- Use hands to handle, control, and feel objects and/or tools
Preferred Qualifications for Crane & Rigging Foreman
- Two (2) years of experience supervising crane and rigging operations
- Knowledgeable of crane signal, hand and verbal
- Ability to lead teams and large crews
- NCCER Rigger Certification Level 2+
- NCCCO certification
- Crawler crane certification
Other Job Requirements May Include
- Travel with extended periods away from home in remote areas
- Will to work shifts up to 12 hours per day and 7 days per week
- Will to work in extreme weather including heat, humidity, and cold
- Will to work on scaffolds and at high elevations

A rigging foreman plays a crucial leadership and safety role in heavy lifting operations by coordinating people, equipment, and safety procedures to complete projects efficiently and incident-free. On site, our crane rigging foreman will be responsible for planning, supervising, and ensuring the safe execution of commercial lifts. You will review lift plans and job specifications to determine rigging requirements and coordinate closely with engineers, crane operators, and site supervisors to organize lifting activities. As rigging foreman, you will lead a team of riggers and signalmen, assign tasks, monitor performance, and ensure all work complies with safety and procedural standards. You will be tasked to conduct safety meetings, risk assessments, and pre-lift inspections to identify hazards and verify that all lifting gear is properly selected, inspected, and certified. During operations, you will oversee equipment setup, direct crane movements, and ensure that load handling is performed within safe limits. As rigging foreman, you are also responsible for maintaining accurate records, including lift permits, inspection logs, and incident reports, while ensuring that equipment stays in working order.
