Consolidated Crane & Rigging proved once again why we’re one of the hardest working crane teams in Houston completing a challenging job at the old Hotel Derek site in the Galleria on August 17, 2025. The job was part of a big renovation project to transition the hotel to its future successor, the Greenleigh Hotel.
The crew’s task was to remove the iconic Hotel Derek sign, and we got it done quickly, efficiently, and safely… just like we promised. With the clock ticking on the tight schedule, the job was wrapped up in a single day, making sure everything went smooth from start to finish. With experience and expertise, Consolidated Crane & Rigging made quick work of the removal using a Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1 mobile crane.

The removal of the hotel sign required careful planning and the use of heavy machinery, and Consolidated Crane & Rigging delivered with precision. When ready, the team brought out the big gun… the Liebherr LTM 1230 Crane with its 230-ton load capacity. It was the perfect tool for the job to reach the sign that was 200 feet up the building facade. The crane’s telescopic boom stretches 250 feet to ensure every aspect of the sign’s removal was handled safely, even with the complexities of working in a busy commercial district like Houston’s Galleria.
